Where This Came From
Claude Code is a general-purpose AI. When you give it a well-structured skill, it becomes a specialist. The difference between asking Claude Code to "review my security" versus invoking a skill that loads a full threat model, specific vulnerability checklist, and audit methodology is the difference between a generic response and an actionable security review.
The Claude Agents registry is the library of those skills. Every domain I work in has a corresponding skill. Frontend development, backend API design, database schema review, deployment configuration, SEO auditing, test coverage analysis. Skills encode the knowledge, so every Claude Code session starts with full context rather than building it from scratch.
Open sourcing it was the obvious move. These skills are more useful when the community improves them. Developers worldwide can pull the registry, install the skills they need, and get the same depth of assistance on their own codebases.
What Was Built
Each skill is a TypeScript-defined prompt template with structured sections: context, persona, methodology, output format, and constraints. The structure is consistent so skills are predictable and easy to compose.
Skills span the full development stack. Frontend, backend, infrastructure, security, testing, SEO, performance, data modeling, API design, deployment. Specialists in every area, available as slash commands.
Skills deploy as slash commands in Claude Code sessions. Invoking a skill injects the full domain context into the conversation. The developer types the command, the expertise loads, the work begins.
Skills can be chained. A security audit skill can reference findings from a code review skill. A performance analysis skill can pull context from an architecture review. Each skill is a building block.
The full skill registry is open source. Developers can browse by category, install individual skills or the full set, and submit new skills via pull request. The registry grows with community contributions.
Skill schemas are typed. The template format is defined with strict interfaces so contributed skills match the structure and integrate cleanly with the existing command infrastructure.
